Grants offered

Want to improve a playground serving lake visitors and residents? Want to enhance a facility? Build a fish cleaning station or buy benches and picnic tables?

The Friends of Lake Sakakawea is accepting application until Aug. 1. The grants called “Gifts for Greatness” will be awarded to organizations making improvements to facilities serving lake visitors and residents. The Friends use the motto: working to make a good lake great.

The application process involves a description of the project, a list of other funding sources, details about the project and the timetable. A one-page letter of application should include information on how the project enhances the experience at Lake Sakakawea and who will benefit from the improvements.

Grants will be reviewed and awarded in August.

The Friends awarded thousands of dollars in grants in the past few years for a playground, pavilion improvements, AEDs for recreational facilities and a stone fire pit.

Applications may be mailed to Friends of Lake Sakakawea, P.O. Box 309, Garrison, ND 58540. Details are at under Activities. Questions may be sent to
